Fear of the dentist: Fight the Power, Exorcise that Evil for Good!

If you’ve undergone some degree of dental treatments during your childhood, your experience of them will be something you want to bury. Popular media long reinforced the stereotype of dentists armed with a bunch of contraptions and a cold glare that shakes you to the core. However, as you get older, you may realize that taking care of your teeth also requires expert advice… but what if the old fear of the dentist suddenly resurfaces? It’s time for you to stand your ground and fight it. There are a number of ways to send that fear running.

Have a loved one accompany you on your visit to the practice and during the discussions with the dentist, they can sit close by to comfort you during explanations of any procedures. Sometimes, the sight of the tools can be repugnant in a sense; your loved one can guide you to at least touch or hold one of them. You also need to talk to your dentist during the initial consultation about what you can do to make yourself more comfortable.

In some situations, your dentist can offer you a chance to undergo the procedure without any memory of it, through sedation dentistry. The discipline will involve oral or intravenous methods designed to temporarily relax you and allow the dentist to proceed without the danger of knee-jerk reflexes.

When the safety of your teeth is already on the line, you must amass a great deal of courage to save it. Your dentist can laud you for facing it through.
