What are the Causes of Tooth Discoloration?

One way to leave a lasting impression on someone is to flash a great smile. To keep that attractive smile, however, you need to be aware of certain foods and bad oral habits that can potentially damage your pearly whites, leading to discolored and dull-looking teeth.
Foods like coffee, tea, colas, wines, and certain fruits, when taken in large quantities can discolor teeth. So do smoking and chewing tobacco, which can easily stain teeth without the proper dental care that includes brushing one’s teeth after a puff, as after a meal. Without regular brushing, plaque forms on the tooth enamel, which, along with simple staining, is what discolors teeth.
Certain medicines, such as antibiotics, antihistamine, and even too much fluoride can also adversely affect one’s teeth color. To combat teeth discoloration, it’s important to observe proper dental hygiene and control over one’s food and drink intake. Brushing after every meal helps mitigate teeth staining, as would cutting back on teeth-staining food and beverages. Cut back on smoking, as well.
