Tooth deterioration

A sticky, acidic film called plaque destroys teeth. This occurs when eating food that’s rich in carbohydrates that turn to acid that attacks tooth enamel.

Regular cleaning can reduce the risk of plaque build-up. However, it may not suffice for molars. This type of tooth has pits and fissures where small food particles stay and ferment.

The Process

Plaque advances to softening enamel, and strips away calcium and phosphate. As it continues a hole called a cavity will form. This will eventually cause tooth aches, and later cause more problems when it reaches the dentin which speeds up tooth decay.

Fillings

Upon feeling pain, have your dentist examine your tooth immediately. When it’s determined that it can be salvage, dentistry uses fillings to do so.

Conscious sedation makes the procedure pain-free when your dentist uses a drill to remove cavity affected areas on your tooth. The area will be cleaned of bacteria and debris, then filings will be inserted and hardened by a laser.

To make sure that it does not grind with other teeth. Your dentist will use the drill again to shape it into perfection.

One must avail of this procedure when tooth pain is experienced. IF you’re in Wynnewood, PA, Dr. DeFinnis is a great choice. His experience will give your tooth a fighting chance against exctraction.
